Artificial intelligence has affected all areas of human activity.
We must become accustomed to the image of a robotic driver bringing our car or a robotic bartender preparing our drink, however how would we find the image of visiting a doctor that is a robot?
For the time being artificial intelligence applications in medicine are limited to more common applications, such as converting the physician’s speech to a prescription or processing medical data for an improved diagnosis of diseases as well as determining of the most effective treatment.
However, all applications are supervised by the physician, who will ultimately approve them and will complete the patient’s check. In fact, it is difficult to envision a robot completely replacing a physician.
Furthermore, there is always the human side, the psychological support and assistance offered by the physician to the patient. Research has found that patients with sympathetic physicians have much better outcomes. Is what we call “human behavior” an advantage possessed only by humans, or maybe not?
In Japan, engineers have been working for several years developing robots that will operate with feelings and their operation will be similar to human behavior. It is very likely that in the future we will see machine physicians take our hand when they announce something unpleasant.
